A Family at War
and beyond..
The True Story of a Liverpool Family
This is the story of Liverpool...through the lives of one family and its descendents. It is the story of Two World Wars, love and loss, emigration, bombing, seafaring and its trades but most of all, how ordinary families are always, always, anything but "ordinary".
This story features the Lusitania, Gallipoli, the Liverpool Blitz, Military Medals, transatlantic travels, shipbuilding trades, work on the greatest ocean liners in the world, families, heartbreak, happiness, mysteries, births, deaths and weddings, schooldays and holidays (and lots and lots of holidays!) and a super centenarian (112 years of age) ... and everything in between.
I discovered all of the many photos, documents and "ephemera" when my mother in law died in 2020. Little did I know what had been passed down to her over the years. It is a treasure trove of the history of not just one City, but the story of "ordinary" life in England and across the seas in the last two hundred years .
Let me introduce you to the Vernon Smiths and their families...
